OCTOBER
19, 2021
I hate to say it, but this month I considered retiring “The Favorites.” After much consideration I realized - what the hell am I talking about! I love the Favorites, I have peculiar taste, and quick obsessions that deserve to be catalogued. So the wishlists will proceed to see another month. Happy October!
Let’s revisit this, I mentioned in my ‘A Week Of My Life’ that Pangea was my only September Favorite. That remains true, and I am still thinking about it. I whole heartedly believe that the world once looked like this, and I can’t help but wonder - What if Pangea never broke up? Imagine all the road trips possible...
This tumblr message. Whoever sent me this - thank you, this is the sweetest thing ever. My life goal is to make every “party girl” feel hot, seen, and sexy. I love when people send me anonymous tumblr messages. This is not only an October Favorite, but a highlight of my life.
We are getting sentimental this October - this note I saved from my friend Eli. This October I went through a box of old things I saved and found this, it is the sweetest thing ever. Eli was a great friend to me when many weren’t, and I will forever appreciate them for that. Very glad I saved this, and even more glad I found it again.
Adobe illustrator. I did not respect illustrator the way I should have, I have always thought photoshop and indesign were superior, but I have spent the last two weeks of my drawing class learning more about illustrator, and I realize now it is fabulous. You can make shapes and drawings and logos and all sorts of sh*t. Tons of respect for adobe illustrator, October Favorite.
Alan Turing, another respectable October Favorite, what a f*cking G. I had never even heard of Alan Turing until my friends explained that this man practically invented the computer and ended world war 2 (early). So of course I was intrigued and had to do a deep dive into that. I watched ‘The Imitation Game’ (Benedict Cumberbatch plays Turing) and it was fabulous. I cannot believe how badly the government played him, no respect! But I respect you Alan Turing, rest peacefully.
Aimee France’s seasonal apple donuts, and well, everything she makes or bakes. My friend Ella (she is the best ever) came to New York just for these donuts, and she was nice enough to bring me one. It was absolutely delicious, maybe one of the best donuts I have ever had. I salute you Aimee France! And she has a fabulous food blog you can follow here.
Lettuce Grow. My Dad and his girlfriend bought one of these for our home, it holds thirty plants and has LED lights that stay on 17 hours a day. I was skeptical, but in three weeks we have produced immaculate amounts of produce. I am talking cilantro, lettuce, dill, tomatoes, strawberries, flowers, rainbow chard, kale, the whole nine yards. It sits in our kitchen and looks like a freaking Dia Beacon installation. Kind of iconic that we are farmers now!
Believe it or not, I miss Washington state. I have spent much of October feeling nostalgic for the memories I had in Washington, notice how I said Washington, not Seattle. I’m referring to the outer territories - camping, driving to Twisp, houseboating on roosevelt lake, spending the weekend at the Gorge, taking the ferry to Vashon. I miss it so much, I am a pnw girl at heart, you can take the girl out of the pnw but you can’t take the pnw out of the girl, I realize that now.
Amor y Amargo, the cutest little bitters bar ever. I have been here so much this October. They have the best Americano (cocktail, not coffee) and these October nights have been just warm enough to sit outside. They only serve spirits and vegan food which cracks me up, but I keep coming back, because the drinks are just so good.
Ok, this is embarassing. Ho Foods chili wontons are an October Favorite, but I couldn’t find a picture of them, so I had to photoshop a single wonton, enjoy.. Ho Foods is the most delicious little Taiwanese place on E 7th. It is so hard to find good Taiwanese food, but they got it. The chili wontons, beef noodle soup, cucumbers, homemade soymilk, You Tiao, radish cakes, Fan Tuan - all of it, so good. I only recently discovered the chili wontons so it is subjective to say they are the favorite, when maybe Ho Foods itself is the favorite.
While we are acting a fool in the October Favorites I may as well say it - this Addison Rae outfit. I don’t even think she knows how hard this outfit is (for her). The big hoodie, the ripped ribbed tank, the rick owens shorts, the AF1’s, and the Aime shopping bag (cherry on top). This is the first time I have ever considered Miss Rae “cool” and I seriously doubt she did it on purpose, feels like satire, but I know it’s not...
This 31 second amateur porno. I fear this is not satire either, but god it is so funny for no reason. Such an October Favorite, gotta love vaccine core especially at the intersection of pornographic content. I don’t know if you guys are familiar with Pandemic Pornhub but it was like a bit too much if you ask me.
This mapo tofu I made. The October Favorites just keep getting more and more embarassing for me. I followed the salmon rice tiktok girl’s recipe, and I hate myself for it! but it came up on my fyp, and I was hungry, and I love mapo tofu, I even had all the ingredients. It honestly would have been more foolish not to make it. It was in-fact delicious, that girl has earned a sliver of my respect.
As Rosella celebrates their one year anniversary this month, it is about damn time I publicize my love for their delicious food. Everything they create is spectacular. My favorites are the laksa soup, salmon roe and shiso roll, chirashi, and of course the tasting menu - it is out of this world.
Petit Ècolier biscuits. So good, I love them, I eat them all the time. They are the only form of choclate that I can eat that doesn’t taste awful. You should totally try them if you haven’t already.
Bananas. There is nothing like a good banana, I have eaten a ton of them this October.
Essentia, 20oz. I know this is ~bad~ but I love plastic bottles of water, more specifically this one. I do own a water bottle, but it stays in my bedroom, I refuse to carry it with me. So in recent times, as I journey through life on a college campus... I buy one 20oz bottle of essentia and carry it in my handbag, and I do refill it throughout the day - thank you very much! It is just the perfect size of bottled water.
I know I previously mentioned Dapsone 5% gel as a Favorite, but this October I applied the pressure to my dermatologist to perscribe me the 7.5% and I am glad I did. As if the 5% wasn’t already working wonders, the 7.5% practically resurfaced my face. With my insurance the generic brand (TARO) was $600? while the name brand (Aczone) was a $60 co-pay. Still don’t understand that, but best $60 I have ever spent. As I have said before, if you don’t have a dermatologist - get one.
Nicki Minaj’s instagram. She has always had the best Instagram, her old photos with the classic filters - the best of all time.
‘Ashley Drapes’ sculptor and Thierry Mugler collector. She is iconic, and I love following her.
The matching tee shirts Quinn got us for my birthday. Two of our guilty pleasures on one gildan tee. The print quality is just as bad as it looks in this picture, if not worse, but I think that makes it even more special.
My Jean Paul Gaultier cyber dot mesh top. That’s right, I own the 1995 Jean Paul Gaultier cyber dot mesh top, I paid a shockingly low price for it and I have only worn it once. I’ve had this for quite some time, but I really started thinking about it this October... It is such a statement piece that I can’t seem to work into an outfit, or find an occasion in which to wear said outfit. I love it nonetheless and I feel sexy and accomplished for simply owning it.
These shoes that I want, but simply do not need.
How to Do Nothing by Jenny Odell. I made a new friend this October and she recommended this book, I ordered it immediately. I am only 5 pages in, but I am in good faith recommending this book to you as an October Favorite.
This bristol paper box I made in one of my classes. Yes, I am proud of this, it is very genuinely the first cool thing I have made at school. The first time I have been wowed by my abilities when pertaining to an assignment, is this box, because who knew I could make this!? Not me.
This October I watched Maid, and it was quite good. I think Margaret Qualley is fabulous and beautiful, and I like Nick Robinson, he was nice to me once and he looked kinda hot in this show, (but he plays a very abusive boyfriend). So anyways... a great watch, that I would recommend.
Adele 19. This album is excellent, but I completely forgot about it. One fateful October night someone played ‘Right as the Rain’ and it all came back to me. Adele has it, she has always had it. So I am revisiting her greatest hits, and I have yet to be disappointed.
Careless Whisper by WHAM! This song is just so good, I have been listening to it a lot this October.
Change Clothes by Jay Z. I don’t know why but I got really into this song this month, classifying it as an October Favorite.
Bottoms Up by Trey Songz ft Nicki Minaj. Great track, can’t stop listening to it.
Little Bit by Drake - great song, excellent song even.
