JULY 20,
2021

It is the best time of the year! We are days away from Leo season, I have way too much time on my hands (early July depression), and I just got a big fat overseas package in the mail. Without further ado, here are this months favorites.
This is my July color. I have been really into silver recently. Sally Hansen ‘Silver Stallion’ is not the silver I would recommend but it is what I have and if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

My new favorite color may have relation to my revived infatuation with Elsa Peretti. Peretti (god rest her soul) has always been the moment, but in the last few months I have found myself obsessed with everything she was, did, and designed. I strive to own every piece. About two weeks ago I went uptown simply to walk around the Tiffany flagship and admire her designs. An experience I recommend to all, and a tipping point in my Elsa Peretti obsession.

This sculpture by Mundy Hepburn. I have a deep resistance to blown glass art (a story for another time) and neon colors. But Hepburn’s subtle works are so beautiful. This piece is free form blown glass and gas. When electrified the purple becomes violet and the green is seemingly more yellow than pictured here. I wish I could own this, but it sadly sold at auction in 2014, for only $400. I would love to learn how to blow glass, but first I must overcome my blown glass trauma, we will get there one day.

For one week this July my family did salad and protein only. This roasted chicken salad was earth shattering. Quite possibly the best salad I have ever had, and definitely the best salad from our week of salads. It is very much nyt cooking subscription worthy.

Wine stoppers. I love wine, but I am a small woman - it would be completely unreasonable for me to finish a bottle of wine in one sitting, therefore wine stoppers have revolutionized my life. When I first moved to New York, I would just put a bottle of wine in my fridge, topless. It was disgusting, I look back on that with disgust. Now, I am working on a little wine stopper collection for my wine loving self. I want the Elsa Peretti wine stopper (of course) (wink wink) but I also found a great set on Etsy, that I will not be sharing with you because I want to buy it.

An (extra) Dirty Martini, with gin not vodka. I tried once, didn’t like it, and never revisited martinis again. Now, I believe they may be my new drink of choice, I will still happily drink a whiskey and coke, but in the spirit of growing up / inescapable aging, it’s time to get real.

This sexy chocolate chip/raisin/oat cookie. I was making chocolate chip cookies this July (I bake now) and they felt so boring, so I started winging it. This was the result, I will eventually make a page of recipes I like, and when I do I will put this on it.

I made gnocchi for dinner three nights in a row this month, and I don’t usually order/eat gnocchi. But burning hot balls of potato in the sultry sauce of your choice? It is so up my alley. The gnocchi I get is from union market, I couldn’t find a photo and I don’t have any more boxes, so I used this gia russa product photo. I doubt this brand is bad though, how could you fuck up the mass production of gnocchi??

The best tuna ever. Always get the fillets in olive oil, never the fillets in spring water.

This is also the best tuna ever. I am giving you options this July.

Hot dogs. On July 4th I ate three hot dogs and they were absolutely delectable. Nothing compares to a hot dog with just ketchup, especially when you are half way through a bottle of wine on an empty stomach. That is really all I have to say about that.

Not a day goes by that I don’t think about this 2003 Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière Fencing Top. The Spring 2003 Balenciaga show is one of the best, and from the collection there are four versions of this top - look 25, 26, 27, and 29. I cannot find a single version for under $3,000 - and even if I did, I would never settle for anything less than 29. This is the best one.

DC Shoes. I have thinking about this particular skateboard/snowboard apparel brand a lot this July. DC had some of the best shirts, and the best beanies. I wish I could bring it back but unfortunately I think I would look very corny doing so. Despite that, I have many DC shirts saved on miscallenous websites, so please contact me if you think you are capable of bringing DC back and I’ll send you some links.

The Marc Jacobs Rana Frog pouch. This is not something I feel I need to own, but I keep revisiting it because I think it is so interesting. I would love to see someone carrying this. I also realized this month that I have a lot of clothing relating to animals, and as I consider a blog post about all my animalistic wear, I realized that may be the only thing that makes me want to buy this.

This Marc Jacobs We heart Hillary shirt. I have spent days this July contemplating if I should buy this shirt, but I wish it wasn’t from Hillary Clinton’s Presidential campaign, because I think it would be so much funnier to wear a shirt Marc Jacobs randomly designed with Hillary Clinton’s face on it - for no reason, other than her being Hillary Clinton. So I am passing, but still love the shirt.

This t-shirt I just bought. I believe in the power of manifestation, wearing your desires on your sleeve and the luck of the Irish (of course). This shirt was $3 and it is perfect. Women only want four things!

Poly(methyl methacrylate), otherwise known as Lucite. The options are truly endless - home decor, jewelry, furniture, sculptures, encased animals, shoes, nails, silverwear, religious symbols. To put it simply, it has been a lucite loving july.

Togo modular sofa by Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset. What a great piece of furniture. I had this exact set and colorway when I lived in Seattle, my parents bought it when I was super young, so when I moved it to my apartment it was just so under appreciated, I thought it was a random couch with a cool name. Now I understand, and deeply miss my couch. I didn’t realize what I had until it was gone! I have talked about it on three seperate occasions this July, which makes me think it is worthy of being a favorite.

‘Sexotheque’ by La Roux. This album came out in 2014, but I am revisiting it July 2021. New York has had a lot of humid, grey days and this album has been the soundtrack to my humid grey day walks.

‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ feat. Majid Jordan. This song had a strong grip on every person I went to high school with. I have circled back to it multiple times this July, and now I understand why.

I came across ‘Sweater Weather’ in one of my old playlists and it brought me back. I realized then that I did not know anything about The Neighbourhood so I went on YouTube and found a live performance and kind of spiraled back to the days of 2012 when this was truly everything. And did everyone but me know that Devon Lee Carlsons boyfriend is the lead singer?? Thought he was in the 1975... Anyways The Neighbourhood is a July Favorite now.

Electric citi bikes. With an emphasis on Electric. I walk everywhere, I love to walk, but this July it is simply too hot. The hot city air is stagnant - unless you’re flying down the street on one of these bad boys. Plus I think I look hot on a citi bike, and that’s the kind of hot I want on my commute, not the other one.

Japan is the greatest place on earth for many reasons, but to focus on just one - they have the best cigarette accessories. Like this American Spirit (yellow) portable ashtray. I already have the light blue one, but the yellow one felt neccessary as well. You would be suprised how often I use this, New York is not my ashtray!

Exhibit B. Last summer someone gifted me a carton of Japanese American Spirit blues, the Japanese cigarettes are better than U.S. (and maybe anywhere), and the packaging is a nicer, darker blue. I feel nostalgia for them, I miss them, and if anyone is planning a trip to Japan, email me. Until then, this is my metal cigarette case.

This yellow Bottega bag that I bought myself as a birthday present. I love their soft woven leather, and I deserve the world.

To end the July Favorites with a bang - Happy Leo season, and Happy Birthday to ME!
