Crossword puzzles are very important to me. When I was a kid, I watched my parents do the crossword puzzle every day, and I could rarely help, but they always encouraged me. I became determined from a young age to one day make crossword puzzles a part of my daily life.

Today, we get the times once a week, for the Sunday crossword. When I first moved to New York, I got really into them, I would carry the paper in my bag, pulling it out on the train or at lunch with friends, but nobody seemed as passionate and there was only one evening, at a boring house party, when the assistance was overwhelming.

When I had my first job in New York, I would steal the crossword from the building papers and work on them in between tasks all day. Whether they were completed or left unfinished, I usually saved them, but I haven’t been able to find my collection, I think I lost them in the move. So the only remnants of my long awaited ability to crossword are the random puzzles I scanned or photographed.  I did the Easter Sunday crossword with my Dad Today, (see “Game Changers”) but neither of us know anything about baseball, and by the end of the night, when we got our third wind, there was a bit too much wine involved to fill in more boxes.

I have considered creating a crossword puzzle myself, but I don’t think I am that clever, maybe I will try and concoct a crossword for the blog.

Damn you Will Shortz...
